Weak acid cation exchange resins behave as a weak acid in aqueous solutions, so they effectively react only with alkalinity-bearing salts. Thanks to a high affinity for H⁺ ions they regenerate easily and offer roughly twice the exchange capacity of strong acid cation exchangers.
